Barnaby Clay is a film director born in Hammersmith, London. Graduated 1996 from the London International Film School.
Clay has directed music videos and multi-platform visual art for artists such as Dave Gahan, Kim Gordon, TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and David Bowie.
He has also written and directed numerous award-winning short films, including ‘Carousel’ (starring Chloë Sevigny), ‘Milano’ (starring Soko) and ‘Sickdog’ (starring Tunde Adebimpe and Natasha Lyonne).
His feature documentary, ‘SHOT! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra Of Rock’, is the story of the legendary rock photographer Mick Rock. It was produced by Vice Media and Straight Up films and distributed by Magnolia Pictures in 2017.
Clay debuted the multi-sensory, immersive installation ‘An Encounter With Lux Prima’ at the Marciano Arts Foundation in 2019. Clay was the creative director behind the project, created for the release of Karen O and Danger Mouse’s collaborative album ‘Lux Prima’.
In January 2024, Magnolia Pictures released the award-winning arthouse horror film, ‘THE SEEDING’, starring Scott Haze and Kate Lyn Sheil. Produced by Out Of The Ether & XYZ Films, the film was written and directed by Clay.
He recently completed the short film ‘Hidden In Pieces’ which will launch on the Criterion Channel in September 2026.
Clay is based in Los Angeles.
